It's a beautiful cold winter day in Montana but I've got my mind on summer because that's mountain bike season and Triathlon season. I've began training for an early summer tri and have had some good training sessions. The pool has treating me well but I long for those open water swims with no lane lines, no flip turns, and no lingering chlorine odors. Biking indoors on the trainer is OK but I've noticed that the little things like butt comfort and aero position bug me times 10. I've also done a few runs indoors on the treadmill when it's just too bloody cold to go out and feel my teeth hurt with every inhale. Ah well, it'll be spring before I know it and I'll be in good shape by then to really maximize the benefits of training outdoors. I think what really draws me to the sport of triathlon is training and racing in the elements with only human power to propel forward. Feeling weightless in the water and the muted sounds of splashing and bubble blowing. Peddling hard and fast enough to feel like I'm flying and the sound of the wind whooshing over me. Running strong and steady with the sound of each foot strike, heavy breath, and heart beating in my ears. Most days are dry and hopefully warm. Other days are a buffet of natures elements and require mental focus to block out and press forward to the finish. The end of the workout or crossing the finish line is such gratifying reward..."made it through another one." Tomorrow I have the privilege to do it again.
