A Billion? Hmmmm, let's see...
If you sat down to count from one to one billion, you would be counting for 95 years.
A tightly-packed stack of new $1,000 bills totaling $1 billion would be 63 miles high. In comparison, jet planes fly at 30,000 - 40,000 feet (5.7 - 7.7 miles high).
About a billion minutes ago, the Roman Empire was in full swing. (One billion minutes is about 1,900 years.)
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases..
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our mind...
Consider New Orleans.... with some simple division and a little sarcasm…
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) asked Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans. What does this number mean?
A. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.
B. Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets $1,329,787.
C. Or... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.
How much is $700 Billion?

Great Post!
I heard somewhere that $700 billion would buy each school aged child in America 7 Apple lap tops.
It would also get every American gas for all of their automobiles for over a year.
Really makes you wonder where all that money is going.
Oh god, oh god, oh god. We're all going to die!!!
Wow.
That is all.
That's a lot of dough...
and I sure don't want any of MY measly earnings going to do-nothings in New Orleans.
I just read that the money markets are freezing up because banks are now relying on the gov to provide liquidity.
Crazy!!!
Thanks for the perspective on how big a billion is...I've never really gotten my brain around those big numbers.
I wonder if a stack of 1 Trillion $1000 bills would reach the moon? :)
