Catching some Z's

There are no awards for being sleep deprived.
Bragging about how little sleep I've had makes me sound stupid...cause it's just dumb to not get enough sleep. "oh, look at me, I got 6 hours of sleep and my energy levels are down so I'm a zombie at work and walking dead during my workouts." Yay for the dumbass (me).

I'm a slave to proper sleep. I need 8 hours minimum. I prefer 8.5 to 9 so I sometimes get a little selfish when it comes to MY time.
It's easy for me to go to bed early because TV shows have gotten very dumbed-down and the evening news is mostly bad..."more layoffs, the economy is still flagging, and the weather is..."

Lately, I've not been setting my alarm clock to see how long I'd sleep naturally. Most nights it's 8 hours and some have been 9 hours. I feel better all day.

Sleep for Optimal Recovery
By Jason Gootman, USAT Certified Coach

Sleep is a critical aspect of health and one of the most important aspect of recovery from your workouts. Aim for as much sleep as you can get. Six hours is the minimum effective amount of sleep for an endurance athlete in heavy training. Eight to nine hours is ideal for most athletes.

Are you getting enough?

I wish I could get 8 hours. That used to my usual - or a good 7.5. Last night, I got 3 hours and 45 minutes. My guy's theory is that my body knows I'm entered in a race Saturday, even though I can't do it. Sleep patterns haven't been the same since the surgery a couple of months ago. Stress? Not enough exercise? Who knows. And I just wrote about sleep disorders for a freelance gig! Sigh.

Omigosh! That's Ken Glah sleeping! ... was that in Zurich?
I hear about the sleep - with my new job I have been starting so early - like getting up at 3, 4 or if I'm lucky, 5 a.m. I miss you - where is spring and when can we ride again?!?!?!?!

I love those 8 and 9 hour nights. Last night I only got 7 and I was dragging out of bed.

I also need AT LEAST 8 hours. The good news for me is that I can easily crash at 8:30 or 9 pm which means there is still time to get up early before work and work out!

I'm at my best when I get 8.5 hours for sure. But i rarely do. :( It's usually around 7, which is okay. Such a struggle!

Got 8hrs myself last night, the night before 3. It's hit or miss, but I do enjoy my 8hrs..:-))

Nine is perfect for me. Left on my own, I almost always sleep exactly nine hours (give or take 3 minutes on either side!) Sadly - I don't get those nine hours often enough. Good topic.

I've been much better about getting 8-9 hours since I've been sick the last month. Also, I love not setting an alarm clock. I use my kid as the alarm clock most days, and it's a much friendlier way to wake up too...he's been sleeping in until around 7:30-8:30. Good thing I'm not expected in very early in the mornings!

I never have understood how some people can get a few hours and be fine, and on a regular basis. I need my 7-8 every night!
