Aquathlon (underwater wrestling).
I should try this.
Aquathlon is wrestling in the water. “Aqua” means water in Latin. “Athlon” means wrestling. Aquathlon was created by Igor Ostrovsky, a coach of swimming and underwater sports. Aquathlon includes several disciplines: Aquathlon classic style, Aquathlon free style, Aquathlon scuba style, Aquathlon combat style, and Aquathlon gymnastics. Aquathlon is sometimes referred to as scuba combat. Competitions are not held in Aquathlon Combat Style. Aquathlon Combat Style is suitable for the training of Navy commandoes.

Prohibited behaviour:
Punching; chocking; tearing off a swimsuit or a mask or fins intentionally.

But we triathletes know better, don't we?
The sport of aquathlon consists of a continuous, two-stage race involving swimming followed by running.
The International Triathlon Union (ITU) and its member federation organizations sanction competitions and govern the sport.
The ITU holds an aquathlon world championship, typically held in the week before and at the same location as the ITU Standard Course Triathlon World Championship.
I think what I was actually looking for is the Aqua-Bike race format.
Geez.

Yeah, sign me up for the aqua bike. That looks totally goofy and I'm competitive, but not so competitive that I'd consider knifing my opponents ;-) Apparently, there are nine aqua bike races around the country. Vineman is the closest one for me. The aqua bike is held the same day as Barb's race and the full Ironman, which is different than the Vineman 70.3. It's usually a couple of weeks later.
That is pretty funny. There are a few aqua bikes around the US...vineman has one (as six two three pointed out) and I think that timberman had one at one point too.
HAHA! You should try aquathlons, I love them....Great, funny pics ;-)
There is a great Aqua-bike race here at the Lone Star Tri Festival in Galveston on April 5th. Nice warm waters and a flat bike course.
One of the guys who helps me with my kids tri has gone to the Aqua Bike National Championships the last two years.
You should get into this! Oh, let us know if you do that outrigger canoe race.
you know, I think they're doing an aquabike at Beach to battleship - the Outlaw Signature Race for 2009...
aquabike is the new black, yo.
I am sorry to read about the knee surgery and all that. I had to drop out of an Ironman once because of knee pain. Still, I am sure you will discover ways to do exercise that you enjoy and are good for your knee, too. That may be a reason I have done a lot more swimming recently.
I was also beginning to think it was very cold where I am, until I looked at your photos.
Very entertaining. Sounds rather similar to the swimming in a tri.
Wow, I think you ought to participate in one of those scuba fighting events and write up a review!
I love the last (dueling?) picture. Thanks for the smile ;)
Thats really funny! Now that you have a hurt knee..maybe aqua wrestling will be one of your new sports? Good luck with that haha...maybe that is a sport I'll be able to beat you in :)
I'd be all over an aquabike... aquathon... hmm... might skip that round! Hope your knee continues to feel better!
That sounds dangerous. And this whole time I thought it was spelled/pronounced "Aquathon" (no L, spelled like marathon). Shows what I know.
Please stick with the one that doesn't involve knives. Sharks can smell blood from miles away...
